As I sat in the Uber headed to a nondescript address in JP Nagar, Bengaluru - my mind drifted spontaneously to a meeting maybe 14 years ago in the Trident Hotel (I think!) lobby in South Mumbai. I was a personal finance journalist with MINT and he was building something new in financial services.
The conversation was hopeful and enthusiastic, about why discount broking was a no brainier for the Indian equity investor. Not just that, he also spoke about a new, low cost broking model with no physical outlets. The passionate conviction of the person sitting in front of me, about the business he was building, made me believe too!
That was 2011โฆ. today Zerodha is the second largest broking firm (active clients) in India. A highly trusted brand, built with conviction and determination.
It was my good luck that @nithinkamath was able to take time out last Friday to hear me carry on about the thought process that led to Money & her being published !!!
